How to Apply

Submission Dates 

The New Ulm Area Foundation grants are awarded twice each year in the spring and the fall.

New Ulm Area Foundation Guidelines for Grant Process

  1. General
    1. Projects or programs must serve the residents in the New Ulm and surrounding area within School District #88.
    2. The New Ulm Area Foundation focuses its grant funding in the areas that serve one or more of their 4 Pillars:
      1. Arts Arts
      2. education Education
      3. Economic Development Economic Development
      4. Historic Preservation Historic Preservation
    3. Grants are restricted to nonprofit organizations which have a 501(c)(3) tax exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service and to government agencies.
    4. The Foundation operates without discrimination as to race, age, religion, sex, or national origin in the consideration of grant requests, and will award grants only to agencies and organizations which do not discriminate as to race, age, religion, sex, or national origin.
    5. Organizations who receive grants will be asked to add an acknowledgment (e.g. that funding was provided by the New Ulm Area Foundation) in all written materials.
    6. The organization applying for a grant will list any prior grants received from the New Ulm Area Foundation within the past five years, including purpose and/or use.
    7. Any organization receiving a grant will be asked to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) outlining the duties and obligations of being a grant recipient.
  2. Projects also considered by the New Ulm Area Foundation
    1. Match for other grants.
    2. Match for funds raised or to be raised from other sources.
    3. Funds dedicated to planning.
    4. Staff and volunteer training and enhanced public awareness.
    5. Projects developed in collaboration with other agencies, planning groups, and those which promote coordination and sharing among organizations and the elimination of duplicated services.
  3. Projects not considered by the New Ulm Area Foundation
    1. Grants are not usually made to support operating expenses of well-established organizations or in response to annual fund drives. On occasion, the Foundation may provide such support on a short-term basis when it is critical to the survival of a key agency or program which has been placed in jeopardy by changes in funding patterns.
    2. Capital purchases will only be granted if they are exceptional or unique applications or are deemed necessary for a program of the organization.
    3. Grants are not usually made to establish or add to endowment funds.
    4. Grants are not usually made for the general use of churches or for sectarian religious purposes.
    5. Grants are not made to individuals.
