Guidelines for Grant Process
New Ulm Area Foundation focuses its granting in the four areas (pillars) of the arts, education, historic preservation, and community enhancement on projects that serve the community within the geographic boundaries of ISD 88.
Please note: Beginning in 2026, the Community Enhancement pillar replaces the Economic Development pillar.
Here is the Goal/Purpose of each pillar.
Arts
- Promote the arts in our community to people of all ages and abilities
- Encourage community connections
- Broaden and create exposure to the arts for as many people as possible
Education
- Increase access to educational opportunities
- Promote educational opportunities for the community
- Promote area leadership development
Historic Preservation
- Support education that preserves stories of the past
- Maintain and preserve structures on the historic registry
- Preserve the historic culture and beauty of the New Ulm area
Community Enhancement
- Encourage projects with measurable, sustainable community impact
- Support emerging, innovative, or cross-sector initiatives that align with the Foundation’s mission that fall outside existing pillars
- Foster collaboration and community engagement to strengthen the long-term vitality of the New Ulm area
Sometimes applicants ask if they can see the questions/requests before they start filling out the form on-line. The attached PDF lists all of the fields for the application form. It may be helpful to type the longer responses onto a blank document, then copy & paste them into the corresponding data fields in the on-line form.
Submission Dates
New Ulm Area Foundation’s grants are awarded twice each year. Applications accepted by March 15 are awarded in May and applications accepted by August 15 are awarded in October.
